
The Chatham County Beekeepers’ Association is offering a seven-hour introductory beekeeping class/workshop aimed at new, or soon-to-be, beekeepers that want to learn the fundamentals and various methods of beekeeping.

11:30 am – Meet for hands-on session going through the CCBA honeybee colonies, CCCC’s bee yard — Location map: Central Carolina Community College – 764 West St, Pittsboro, NC
Immediately following: Move to the Chatham County Agriculture and Conference Center for the didactic portion of the class. Includes break-out sessions to review effective smoker lighting and hive inspection techniques, dinner and snack breaks — Location map: 1192 US Hwy 64 West Business, Pittsboro, NC
At the completion of this seven-hour class, participants will be able to:
- Recall the history of beekeeping
- Classify the castes of honeybees and their functions in the colony
- Recognize the most common hive components and equipment in use today
- Explain healthy hive characteristics and recognize common pests and diseases
- Discuss health and safety issues, including bee stings
- Differentiate hive management and seasonal focus
