Our History
The Chatham County Beekeeper’s Association was started in 1976 by a small group of beekeepers, interested in supporting each other in furthering beekeeping in the county. From the early days of conversation across the table, the association blossomed and matured into a proactive and supportive community all focused on the needs of beekeepers in the county and state, while expanding into educating the public about the critical need to nurture pollinators.
For four decades, our association has been dedicated to helping each other build, nurture and grow beekeeping in our area. Each of us in CCBA, from our youngest 9-year-old member to our oldest and wisest 85-year-old Master beekeeper, is focused on a number of missions:
- Promoting cooperation among the beekeepers of the state and nation
- Improving general public awareness of the contribution of bees and beekeeping
- Maintaining friendly and helpful relations among beekeeping advocates
- Encouraging better beekeeping methodologies
- Fostering closer cooperation among members of the NCSBA
- Developing markets for beekeeping products
